NO GOLD DRILLING (AND NO MORE GOLD MINING) IN OUR SHIRE VALLEYS

Two Exploratory Licence applications are with Vic Earth Resources for the upper Ovens, lower Buckland and parts of Kiewa Valley.

Deadline for objections was 23 December 2020. Group members and allied groups generated well over 100 objections to the applications. A decision from Earth Resources is likely to take a minimum of 3 months (end of March 2021).

If the licences are approved they will be valid for 5 years and then there is the possibility of a mining licence application. The noise of these operations may well drive tourists away from an area heavily dependent on tourist spending.

That’s why the new “Phase 2” of the Group is to lobby the Alpine Shire Council to have a clear policy opposing any more gold mining in our valleys – places where mining is totally inappropriate.
